Meet Golzar, Big's First Female Intern

Golzar Shobeiri joined BIG as our first female construction intern in 2018. A senior at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Golzar is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management with a specialty in Biomedical Engineering. As one of only three females in the office and Big’s first female intern and soon to be first female project engineer, Golzar has already made an impact at Big.

“Golzar has been an extremely reliable during her internship. She has a tremendous work ethic, eagerness to learn, and the creativity to problem solve. We’re excited to have her join our team full-time this June; she will be a big contributor to our company growth and success”, said Chris Eby, Project Executive

As an intern, Golzar supports our projects managers with subcontractor management, project cost estimating, plan review and project close-outs. Golzar’s proactive mindset and attention to detail has made her an asset to the team.

“When I start full-time in June, I will be the only woman project engineer. As someone who comes from a University with a female population of only 35%, I am not surprised that this is the case at BIG and other construction companies. I think more and more women will start to take on STEM and construction majors. It will be interesting to see how the construction and STEM industries begin to change”, says Golzar.

Golzar is an active member of the student body at IIT. She is part of the Kappa Phi Delta Sorority and the Vice President of Academic Affairs in the Student Government Association. She is also a active member of the Society of Women Engineers. As Chicago native, Golzar is a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. She enjoys watching the newest hit on Netflix and is a “Marvel” movie fan.
